ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (March 20, 2024) – The Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) Collegiate Recovery Community and Student Counseling Services Center will host, “A Meeting of the Minds: Education, Sobriety, and Recovery Summit” on Wednesday, March 20 at 9 a.m.   

The event, themed “It Takes a Village,” will bring together experts from ECSU and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services to discuss mental health, substance abuse and other emotional wellness topics. The keynote speaker is Rwenshaun Miller, founder and executive director of Eustress Inc., a non-profit organization based in Charlotte, N.C.  

Throughout the day panelists will host breakout sessions and vendors will be available. The purpose of the event is to convene experts around the topics of substance use, education, and awareness as a way to educate students and community citizens.  

“Mental health and the challenges around it are a prevailing issue in our community,” said Latonia Johnson, director of Student Counseling Services. “We hope this type of event is the impetus for good conversation and takeaways that benefit our community.”
